Tangles, the first

I'm yet to take my first official Zentangle class. But I know of a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) in my area, and I'm looking forward to taking her class later this fall. In the meantime, I'm having some fun exploring on my own, reading books, and getting inspired by other people's art online.  I really like the book I got: Zentangle Untangled by Kass Hall.

For my first tangle, I traced my hand and had fun filling in each section with different Zentangle patterns: Footlites, Curvy Scallop Puffs, Echo, Semaphore, Honeycomb, Log cabin.

Then after practicing a few more patterns, I tried making a larger tangle. I really like the center where the "Garlic" spills over the "Semaphore".  The other patterns used here are Paradox (love this tutorial), Starfish by Kass Hall and Jetties.

I haven't yet attempted shading, but once I invest in a graphite pencil, I'll give it a try. I love the dimension it gives.
